What you have done is equated the manual with facts. It is true that the manual calls out a mileage interval and does not call out a time interval. But that does not by itself mean that there are absolutely no instances in which one should replace the belt ahead of the mileage interval.
I think I would say that your mind is indeed shut as well, because you cannot imagine that Nissan would have to comingle other inputs with a reliability engineer's input, or that Nissan might not be interested in 100% reliability in every possible situation!
